Lucile is a mechanical engineer with more than 20 years’ experience in the orthopaedic medical device industry. After 13 years spent in R&D developing shoulder medical devices and managing R&D projects, she moved to a marketing role. She’s currently a Product Marketing Manager at Stryker South Pacific, looking after the Upper Extremities portfolio. She is a highly motivated professional passionate about bringing together technical excellence and customer engagement in the shoulder arthroplasty space to improve the lives of patients.

Patrick is the Director of Engineering at Australian Biotechnologies, an Australian-based manufacturer of allograft solutions for a wide range of patient needs and surgical procedures. Australian Biotechnologies hosts a world-class processing facility with a team of specially trained technical staff and strict quality procedures to retrieve, process and distribute donated human bone and tissue for transplant purposes. Patrick graduated from the University of Sydney with a combined Bachelor of Medical Science and Biomedical Engineering.

Prof Karen Reynolds

Prof Karen Reynolds FTSE FAHMS is an Australian biomedical engineer. She is currently the Dean of Research for the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University and a Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor. Prof Reynolds is the director of the Medical Device Research Institute and founding director of the Medical Device Partnering Program in South Australia, a collaboration between South Australian researchers, end-users and industry to assist in the development of cutting-edge medical devices that solve real end-user problems. She is a member of the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board, Director of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) Board, Chair of the ATSE Health and Technology Forum and a member of the Therapeutic Goods Administration Advisory Committee on Medical Devices.

Prof David Sonnabend

Prof David Sonnabend AM is Professor Emeritus at the University of Sydney, where he was Professor of Orthopaedic and Traumatic Surgery from 2001 until 2016. His clinical interests relate to shoulder surgery and arthritis, and he has published over 70 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 18 book chapters in this field. He was a founding member of the Australian and New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society, and the inaugural president of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia, of which he is an honorary life member. He was, for nine years, “Editor in Australasia” of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He is a corresponding member of the “American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons”, and a reviewer for various journals (including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the Journal of Orthopaedic Science, the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Journal of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery and Shoulder & Elbow Journal). He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2018.

Mr Peter Cooke

Peter Cooke has held executive and board roles in publicly listed US companies over the last 30+ years building and coaching world class talent, working on mergers and acquisitions and developing global market opportunities. Most recently Peter served as President, Emerging Markets, Australia & Japan for Wright Medical NV prior to its sale to Stryker Corporation in 2020. Peter established the international business at Wright and lead the merger of Wright and Tornier in 2015. Peter also headed the international division of ev3 Inc, a company focused in the neurovascular treatment of aneurysms and stroke that was sold to Covidien/Medtronic Corporation in 2010. Prior to that Peter served at Guidant Corporation after its divestiture from Eli Lilly Corporation establishing the implantable cardiac defibrillator, pacemaker and coronary stent development from the early 90s. Now based back in Brisbane he is serving on several medical device company boards and advising start-ups in their commercialisation pathway.

She is the Founder and Executive Director of Hear and Say, Founder and Chair of Bionics Queensland, member of Senate of the University of Queensland, and a Fellow of both the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering and the Queensland College of Arts and Sciences. In 1992 she established Hear and Say as a leading not-for-profit for deaf children learning to listen and speak, particularly with surgically implantable hearing technology like the bionic ear. She is currently sharing her experience for the benefit of the stakeholders in the wider bionics industry. Over the past ten years she has built up an Australian national bionics alliance, now ‘Bionics Queensland’. As Chair of the Board, she has been working to promote the Bionics Industry and help bring new bionics solutions to market for the benefit of people with previously untreatable medical problems. These include not only hearing but also visual, neurological, limb and organ conditions.
