On the 18th of May, we had the pleasure of hosting Mr Anupam Negi (Senior Manager, Strategic Marketing) & Ms Laura Zieth (Product manager) from the Zimmer Biomet ANZ & Singapore teams.

Anupam and Laura spent time chatting with our PhD students & post-docs about their research. They also shared insight into the shoulder markets across APAC and how the marketing & business side of a multinational medical device company runs.

As one of our key industry partners, Zimmer Biomet are a global leader in musculoskeletal healthcare  through the design, manufacturing and marketing of:

- orthopaedic reconstruction products

- Sports medicine, biologics, extremities & trauma

- Spine, CMF & Thoracic products

Zimmer Biomet's ANZ team's main office is in Sydney, which includes a small research and development team. So it was very instructive and informative to have members of the Singapore team visit to give their broader Austral-Asian perspective on the medical device market, commercialisation of research, and emerging technologies as being developed in the broader ANZ and Asian region.

At the centre, they have a focus on sports medicine and rehabilitation technologies which are currently being developed in conjunction with the centre, with new implants in development that tie to our computer and fine element modelling of the shoulder in program 1.

As commented by Ms Zieth during her visit:

"Thanks a lot for giving us the opportunity to visit the center. I learned so much from interactions with the team and congratulations for doing so much cutting edge work in Shoulder research. I have no doubt that your big thinking will lead to meaningful change in our industry."

We are grateful for the emerging industry collaboration and look forward to creating new innovative projects and opportunities for our students to transform the orthopaedic industry and contribute to their rehabilitation and implant design goals.
