The ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Joint Biomechanics was officially launched on Friday, November 12. Centre members, university staff, industry and clinical partners, advisory committee members and the Centre’s broader network met in-person to hear from official speakers Vice-Chancellor and President, QUT - Prof. Margaret Sheil AO, Centre Director - Prof. YuanTong Gu,  ARC Training Centre for Joint Biomechanics, Australian Research Council (ARC) Executive Director – Engineering & Information Services - Dr. Robert Mun, and Centre Clinical Lead - Adj Prof. Ashish Gupta.

Joining the launch remotely from Canberra, ARC Executive Director Dr. Robert Mun officially opened the Centre, emphasising the impact of the Centre's research on reducing "the health burden of musculoskeletal conditions through innovative technologies for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients with orthopaedic conditions".

Speakers highlighted the Centre’s dedication to training industry-ready graduates for a highly skilled multidisciplinary workforce, capable of creating and applying novel, clinically relevant biomechanical modelling, and simulation platforms, to actively transform the orthopaedic industry.

Following the official opening of the Centre, we were privileged to have a panel of experts from industry, research, higher-education, and the medical technology sector talk on diversity as a key to achieving meaningful innovation. Our panellists shared their personal and professional experience in building and managing diverse teams to achieve success in research, health care provision and commercial settings.

The ARC Training Centre for Joint Biomechanics launch provided a wonderful opportunity for the Centre’s PhD students and Post-doctoral Research Fellows to showcase their research on one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning and display spaces, The Cube. The Cube delivered a unique interactive digital learning experience for Industry and University employees to engage and understand the research projects.

The Launch concluded with an evening of networking at the Old Government House, opened by Ms Leanne Harvey, University Registrar and Vice-President (Administration), QUT.
